  9. No, Patrick Murphy, PolitiFact did not debunk every attack against you

    State Roundup

    Our ears are burning.

Twice in two debates, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Patrick Murphy invoked our name as a shield in the face of criticism from Republican incumbent Marco Rubio about his background.

"You continue to throw out these lies. They have all been debunked by PolitiFact," Murphy said.

Murphy's response was memorable — especially to us. His retort is a wishful reading of our reports. Here's the truth: Murphy has exaggerated his credentials, and his opponents have also exaggerated their attacks on Murphy....

  11. A search for heels you can wear to work — comfortably

    Blog

Wanted: Professional shoes with height that I can wear everywhere, that won't kill my feet.

I've been KonMari-ing my life lately, and have parted ways with shoes that don't serve me anymore. A bag of very pretty heels remains under bed, not exactly fitting the definition of bare essential but sparking all kinds of joy. My problem, though, is these heels are useful for special occasions only — and best chased with a pair of fast flats....

  13. When is it okay to talk about the clothing of a woman in politics?

    Blog

It's a question 10 women would answer 10 different ways. And as a political journalist with an eye for what people are wearing, it's one I've wrestled with, too.

Is it so wrong to incorporate what a woman is wearing into a story when she's running for office?

After all of this time, I explored the question in a story for Sunday's politics-themed issue of the Times' Latitudes section, the Art of Politics....

The outfits of Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren looked a lot more similar in color on TV than in photographs, I promise.
  14. We want to see what politicians wear. Is that so wrong?

    Fashion

Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren walked onto the stage in Cincinnati with wide grins and windshield-wiper waves, the crowd roaring for their first campaign appearance together.

With Warren's endorsement of Clinton weeks out of the bag, news stories that day in June told of how Warren went after Republican Donald Trump as a "nasty man," how she yelled, "I'm with her, yes, her," referring to Clinton, and how she assured her progressive following that Clinton would be tough on trade abuses and Wall Street greed....
