Hurricane Irma fears postpone Miami-FSU game to Oct. 7

RECOMMENDED READING

The impending impact of Hurricane Irma caused the ACC to move the Florida State-Miami game to Oct. 7. It was initially scheduled for this coming Saturday, but both teams had the same off week. It will remain in Tallahassee.

To accommodate the change, the ACC also bumped Miami's home game against Georgia Tech back two days, to Oct. 14. It was slated to be a Thursday night game.

"As important as football is to all of us, these kinds of events provide perspective when you're talking about life-threatening events and the aftermath ramifications," ACC commissioner John Swofford said. "It quickly became clear that it was in the best interest of our players, coaches and fans to reschedule next week's Miami at Florida State game."

No announcements have been made on other state games this coming week, including the Tennessee-Florida game in Gainesville.

Saturday's game highlights

NO. 1 ALABAMA 41, FRESNO STATE 10: Jalen Hurts ran for 154 yards and two touchdowns and passed for a third score for the host Tide (2-0). Hurts completed 14 of 18 for 128 yards, but his biggest play came when he faked a handoff and sprinted 55 yards for a touchdown on the second offensive play, stepping out of a last-gasp tackle attempt at the 15. Alabama outgained the Bulldogs 305-58 rushing. Jeff Tedford, whose stint as Bucs offensive coordinator in 2014 was derailed by heart issues, is in his first season as Fresno State's coach.

No. 8 Michigan 36, Cincinnati 14: Ty Isaac ran for a career-high 133 yards and Wilton Speight threw two touchdowns for the host Wolverines (2-0), who pulled away with 19 unanswered points.

NO. 9 WISCONSIN 31, FAU 14: Freshman Jonathan Taylor ran for 223 yards and three touchdowns, Alex Hornibrook threw for 201 yards and a score as the bigger Badgers (2-0) wore down the visiting Owls (0-2.) Because of the threat of Irma, FAU is staying in Madison at least through today.

Iowa 44, Iowa State 41, OT: Nate Stanley threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Ihmir Smith-Marsette in overtime as the visiting Hawkeyes rallied for their third straight win over the rival Cyclones.

New information on Paterno

A Pennsylvania state police report has surfaced suggesting legendary Penn State coach Joe Paterno had heard at least one other allegation that assistant coach Jerry Sandusky was sexually abusing young boys before a 2001 complaint Paterno had admitted receiving, CNN reported Saturday. The report describes a conversation in 2001 between Paterno, who has since died, and Mike McQueary, a Penn State assistant coach and star witness in the case against Sandusky. Based on an account from McQueary, the report alleges that Paterno said it was the "second complaint of this nature" he'd received about Sandusky.
