RIVERVIEW — A woman was found dead in a townhouse Monday afternoon in what the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office was calling a homicide.

The Sheriff's Office identified the woman as Tahirih Lua D'Angelo, 39. Investigators said she suffered from unspecified "upper-body trauma." Monday was her birthday.

Deputies responded to the townhouse at 6916 Hawthorne Trace Lane around 4 p.m. after receiving a call from a relative who had visited the home to check on D'Angelo's welfare.

The Sheriff's Office released few details about what deputies believe happened, but said investigators do not think her death was a random act. They were still working Monday evening to secure a search warrant for the home.

Property records show the home was purchased by the woman's husband of more than four years, Stephen Robert D'Angelo, 30, in September.

Next-door neighbor Judy Wimbley said she had no idea anything was wrong Monday evening until she went outside to take her beagle, Brady, for a walk. Then she saw the crime scene tape.

She said she knew the friendly woman next door in passing. They would talk while walking their dogs, exchanging tips on dog day care centers. D'Angelo had a 3-year-old daughter and a black poodle, Wimbley said.

"You get a pit in your stomach," she said. "I didn't hear anything, I didn't know anything happened."

Wimbley said she watched the husband come home to find his house turned into a crime scene, and after 7:30 p.m. he and the daughter still waited outside with deputies. When he came home he was very distraught, Wimbley said, and fainted briefly on the small patch of grass outside the townhome. Deputies asked if the daughter was his, Wimbley said, and he said yes.

Ray Lopez, who lives across the street, said when he came home for lunch around noon everything was quiet.

"They were very quiet, never drew any attention to themselves," Lopez said.

Corey Erickson, who has lived across the street from the D'Angelos for about six months, brought deck chairs to the cordoned off parking spots for Stephen D'Angelo and his daughter to sit in while detectives worked.

He said Stephen D'Angelo seemed "shocked."
